Veg, Non Veg and Brahmin Imposition

Zomato's Pure Veg fleet- Debates around Brahminical Purity, Pollution, Veg and Non Veg

Hello, everyone! What’s going on? I hope you’ve been well, and I hope you’re proud of me being so consistent with my newsletters and YouTube videos (Please tell me you are, I need all the reassurance in the world after being out of commission for almost a year🥺)

Do you remember a few months ago how Zomato introduced their “Pure Veg Fleet” to handle vegetarian food exclusively. Yeah, not their best moment…

Thanks to the socially conscious, there were plenty of debates and discussions talking about how dangerous it would be to demarcate a food delivery executive by their literal uniforms; especially in a political climate where we constantly witness mobs lynching Muslim men for consuming or trading what is claimed to be beef.

While Zomato reconsidered their idea of having separate uniforms after the criticism, it does not change the fact that the dichotomy between “pure veg” and “non vegetarian” food is inherently casteist, and companies like Zomato do make use of it, reinforcing Brahminical Hegemony.

I made a YouTube video attempting to deconstruct the notions of purity and pollution, especially those pertaining to dietary practices; particularly those imposed by Brahmins on the Non-Brahmin majority.

I've been gone. So has my friend. Her name had Lenin, and she had a pen. And a tongue as sharp as knife. Let me know, I'm trying to find her. Or be found.

Nikhat Zareen and Indian media's obsession with the Hijab

On 22nd May, Indian boxer Nikhat Zareen won the world boxing championship against Thailand’s Jutamas Jitpong. In a regular country, the media would celebrate this win and ask her questions about her preparations, about her future goals and how she feels about such a moment.

The perks of not being perceived.

If you follow me on Instagram, you probably know that my account got disabled a few weeks ago, on 26th November, 2020. This happened right after I announced that I would be taking a social media break. It was a difficult situation for me, especially since I lost all the content, along with the community of people I had built using that account. I asked people who followed me on my backup and my friends to report this problem to Instagram. Long story short, a few days after that, on 10th December, 2020 I got my account back.
