The inferiority complex of majoritarian communities.

New Reel: The Inferiority Complex of Majority Communities

I might have a lot of flaws, but at least I don't have the inferiority complex of an average Hindu...

Imagine occupying most of the powerful positions and offices in the country, and fearing some of the most disenfranchised people; imagine owning most of the wealth in a country, and being scared of one the most poor communities stealing your jobs; imagine having the state machinery backing you- not just backing you, rooting for you and egging you on- while you lead violent and inflammatory processions throughout the country, and then accusing the most criminalized minority of being too aggressive and intolerant. Imagine wielding tridents and swords, and still being scared of a stone.

During the Ram Navami processions on April 10, Muslims were accused of throwing stones at the mob of Hindus dancing and playing provocative and inciteful songs in front of mosques; in response to which, the mob came out with swords and guns. It's the the same stone pelting story with the protests against Nupur Sharma and the comments she made about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) on a live television debate. I hope someone informs the police that Muslims protesting against Nupur Sharma's vile comments don't own tridents and swords, so we make do with stones.

What is this hullabaloo about stones, anyway? During Ram Navami, the response to alleged stone pelting was waving tridents and swords in public by the mob gathered to apparently celebrate the festival. This time, the response was police brutality and open firing on a group of unarmed civilians. My question here is: Are you scared of the stones or are you scared of our audacity? "How dare these people take to the streets to protest", right? You're trying to put people in their place because they have no right to protest. Especially after the response of some West Asian countries, withdrawing Indian products from their supermarkets and summoning Indian envoys on the insulting remarks against the Prophet (PBUH), the violence Muslims protestors faced is not unprecedented or surprising; if anything, it was expected. Afterall, nothing screams "inferiority complex" quiet like this. Only bullies and bigots threaten, kill and maim people after facing international humiliation.

It's no surprise that the same people who brought out deadly weapons after singing along and dancing to hateful and provocative songs all day, in the guise of defending themselves from stones, are supporting the police brutality and massacre of Muslims that took place in Jharkhand. It is also not surprising that the same people are cheering and celebrating mass demolition of Muslim houses in the name of "law and order"; after all, in an unjust country of blood thirsty bigots, what is "law and order", if not taking matters into your own hands and running around with illegal weapons after allegedly having a stone thrown at you? Anyway, these days you can do anything, pass any random (read: illegal) orders on weekends and no judicial body will bat an eye because they, just like most people in this country, are sleeping.

Now that I think about it, it's only natural that these people are scared of stones. After all, even the fully armed soldiers of the Israel Occupation Forces, carrying the most deadly weapons are scared of stones.
